Drs. Jeff Vogel, Kristin Maclauchlan and Kelvin Kow built Seacoast Emergency & Referral Veterinary Hospital (SERV) as a family-owned veterinary hospital dedicated to caring for pets and their families with compassion, honesty, and expertise.
Drawing on decades of experience in dermatology, oncology and emergency medicine, they created a place where thoughtful, individualized care comes first—for every pet, every family, and every member of the veterinary team.

Veterinary Dermatologist
I grew up in a veterinary family, so animal care has always been part of my life. Watching my father practice medicine shaped my appreciation for hands-on problem solving and the trust built between veterinarians and families. During my training, I found my calling in dermatology—where careful observation, pattern recognition, and thoughtful diagnostics can dramatically improve a pet’s quality of life.
My wife and colleague, Kristen, and I opened this family-owned hospital to practice medicine with integrity, transparency, and autonomy. We wanted the freedom to make decisions based on what’s truly best for pets, their families, and our team—without the pressures of corporate ownership.
I believe honest communication is essential. I take time to explain diagnoses, discuss treatment options, and help families make informed decisions I would feel comfortable making for my own pets. My approach focuses on early and accurate diagnosis, realistic expectations, and individualized care.
As New Hampshire’s only board-certified veterinary dermatologist, I treat a wide range of complex skin, ear, and allergy conditions. Working within a multi-specialty hospital allows for close collaboration with emergency, surgery, and imaging teams—often leading to faster answers and more comprehensive care.
Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, spending time with my family, and life with our rescue pets. Caring well for animals starts with caring well for the people who love them.
Emergency and Critical Care
I’ve worked in emergency veterinary medicine since 2007, and I love it. Emergency care is fast-paced, emotional, and demanding—but incredibly meaningful. I discovered this specialty during my third year of veterinary school at Cornell University, after watching a mentor calmly save a dog’s life in a critical moment. I was instantly hooked.
For many years, I practiced emergency medicine before corporate ownership became widespread in specialty and emergency hospitals. As those pressures grew, I worked hard to preserve space for empathy, connection, and patient-centered care. When that became increasingly difficult, Jeff and I faced a choice: walk away from a profession I love or be brave enough to build something different. We chose to build.
This hospital was created with kindness, medical excellence, empathy, and community at its core. I believe families deserve compassionate support during their most stressful moments, and veterinary teams deserve to be cared for as people—not just providers.
With over 20 years of emergency training, I remain deeply committed to growth, learning, and showing up fully for patients, clients, and colleagues.
Outside the hospital, I’m a mother of three and share our home with a lively mix of golden retrievers and cats. Although we once planned to stay in upstate New York, New Hampshire quickly became home—and the community we are proud to serve.
Veterinary Oncologist
Dr. Kelvin Kow is a board-certified veterinary oncologist with more than two decades of experience in clinical cancer care, research, and education. Renowned for his compassionate approach and clinical expertise, Dr. Kow is dedicated to guiding families and referring veterinarians through complex oncologic decisions with clarity, empathy, and evidence-based medicine.
Dr. Kow earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Louisiana State University before completing a rotating internship, a medical oncology residency, and a Master of Science at Colorado State University. He became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Oncology) in 2007.
Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Kow has held leadership and academic positions at some of the world’s most respected institutions. His appointments include Oncology Service Chief and Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida, as well as Founding Oncologist at both Fitzpatrick Referrals in the United Kingdom and Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital in New Hampshire. These roles reflect his commitment to advancing the field of veterinary oncology and expanding access to cutting-edge cancer treatment.
An accomplished researcher and educator, Dr. Kow has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed to leading veterinary textbooks, and delivered invited lectures at national and international conferences. His work has advanced understanding in areas such as comparative oncology, targeted therapies, and innovative cancer treatments. He also served as a Residency Program Director and has trained the next generation of veterinary oncologists.
Dr. Kow’s clinical interests include individualized chemotherapy protocols, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, and electrochemotherapy for select tumors. He is passionate about collaborative care, partnering closely with primary care veterinarians to ensure seamless, patient-centered treatment.
Above all, Dr. Kow is committed to improving both the quality and length of life for pets with cancer. By combining scientific rigor with genuine compassion, he provides personalized care that supports both patients and the families who love them.

Dr. Maclauchlan co-founded Vogel Veterinary with a vision of creating a family-owned hospital grounded in kindness, empathy, and exceptional medical care. With more than 20 years of experience in emergency medicine, she is deeply committed to supporting both patients and the people who love them—while fostering a collaborative environment where veterinary teams feel valued and cared for.

For Dr. Vogel, veterinary medicine has always been personal. Together with his wife, Kristen, he built Vogel Veterinary to provide thoughtful, expert care rooted in transparency, collaboration, and trust—while fostering a supportive environment for both families and the team caring for them.
Hospital Director
Helping others has always been at the heart of who I am. I spent 10 years working as a First Responder, a career that taught me the importance of compassion, resilience, and being there for people in their most critical moments. Over time, I took on a supervisory role in pre-hospital emergency medicine and healthcare management, where I learned not only how to lead a team but how to support and empower the people around me. Those experiences shaped my approach to service and leadership and continue to guide the work I do today.
Eventually, I felt called to bring that same dedication and care into a new chapter—helping both people and animals. Whether it’s caring for a client, supporting a patient, or mentoring a team member, I strive to approach every situation with empathy, patience, and a commitment to doing what’s right. I take great pride in my work and believe that putting others first is not just a professional principle, but a way of life.
Outside of work, I love being outdoors—hunting, fishing, or just enjoying the quiet moments in nature. Even more, I cherish the time I get to spend with my wife, children, and our dogs. They are a constant source of joy, grounding, and inspiration in my life, and remind me every day why I do the work I do.
Our supervisors help ensure that every part of the hospital runs smoothly—from patient care to team coordination. Their leadership behind the scenes allows our doctors and technicians to focus fully on patient care.
Dermatology Supervisor
Growing up spending most of her time at a farm in southern New Hampshire, Abby fell in love with animals at a young age. She turned her passion into a career when she decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in veterinary technology at Mount Ida College in Newton, MA (now part of UMASS Amherst). After graduation in 2019, she passed the VTNE and spent a year working for an ambulatory equine practice before transitioning to small animal medicine with Dr. Jeff Vogel in 2020. As they say, the rest is history.
Abby has worked closely with Dr. Vogel for the last 5 years and is proud to be a part of our expansion here at SERV. In her spare time, you will find her enjoying time outdoors with her family and Golden Retriever, Vivi, or competing with her horse in the jumper and equitation rings.

ER Supervisor
I’ve been in veterinary medicine for over 10 years, starting in general practice before moving into emergency medicine and anesthesia. I now supervise the Emergency & Critical Care department here at SERV.
My goal is to bring experience, empathy, and a calm, grounded approach to the work I do. Providing top-notch medicine with gentle, compassionate care—for both pets and their people—is incredibly important to me.
When I’m not working, you can usually find me chasing a toddler, snuggling a baby, drinking an iced coffee, or spending time at the lake. At home, I have two French bulldogs, Siggi and Otis, and a very opinionated cat named Bernard.

ER/ICU Supervisor
Our client care team is often the first voice you hear and the first face you see. We understand that veterinary visits—especially emergencies—can feel overwhelming. Our client care team is here to make the experience as smooth and supportive as possible.
Dermatology
Christine works in veterinary client services, supporting pet owners through the emotional and practical challenges of animal care. She is currently pursuing a degree in social work, with a growing interest in veterinary social work and client advocacy.
Christine is passionate about client communication, reducing barriers to care, and creating supportive spaces for both clients and veterinary professionals. Outside of work and school, she enjoys spending time with her cats and finding joy in small, everyday moments.
Dermatology
Before joining the SERV Vet team in 2022, Laura spent most of her life as a special education teacher. After living on the west coast for a decade and working at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, she found herself in New England where her lifelong love of animals brought her to a career in veterinary medicine. She enjoys yoga, roller skating, and spending time with her cat Emma!
Emergency
Lauren is originally from Massachusetts and relocated to New Hampshire in 2012. She joined the emergency team after previously working with Dr. Maclauchlan, drawn by a shared love of animals and compassion. As Lauren notes, “I saw Dr. Maclauchlan’s vision and knew I had to be part of it in any way possible.” She is the devoted owner of two cats, Max and Lilith, and is deeply passionate about her community, consistently seeking opportunities to give back. In her free time, Lauren enjoys reading, attending concerts, karaoke, and dancing whenever possible.
Emergency
Zoe is currently finishing her undergraduate degree in psychology and criminal justice and preparing to continue her work on her master’s degree.
Outside of work and school Zoe is an avid reader and a proud pet mom to three cats – (Microwave, Toaster, and Mini Fridge) And two dogs – (Charlie & Dexter) “I love what I do at Vogel and the opportunity it gives me to connect with our community and create a warm positive experience for families.”
